Steven Gibson, Deputy City Manager, City of Rock Hill, South Carolina, became the new president of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) at the association’s annual business meeting on May 8, 2018. During the past year, Gibson served on the Executive Board as president-elect. He has been a member of the Executive Board since 2014. Gibson accepted the gavel from 2017– 2018 President Patrick J. McCoy, Director of Finance, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, New York, New York.
Also at the business meeting, the association’s members elected a new GFOA presidentelect and six new members of the association’s Executive Board. Terry S. Stone, Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations, Hanover County Public Schools, Virginia, is the new GFOA president-elect. She will succeed Gibson as president of the association in May 2019 at the Annual Conference in Los Angeles, California. GFOA Executive Director Chris Morrill said that Stone was elected by her peers because of her extensive experience in both local government and public school finance, strong leadership skills, and passion for the profession. Stone has served on the Executive Board since 2015.
The six new members-at-large of the Executive Board will each serve a three-year term beginning immediately. New board members are: Catherine J. Brubacher, General Manager of Corporate Services and City Treasurer, City of Brantford, Ontario, Canada (filling unexpired term); Cynthia Evangelisti, Treasurer, Chicago Park District, Illinois; Amelia Merchant, Director, Finance, City of Roanoke, Virginia; Diane Reichard, Chief Financial Officer, City of Plant City, Florida; Tina Tapley, Director of Finance, Innovation & Technology and City Treasurer, City of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada; and Terri Velasquez, Director of Finance, City of Aurora, Colorado.
