Last year, the White House declared a National Day of Civic Hacking. During those two days, citizen volunteers collaborated to build open-source solutions designed to solve local government issues. The event took place in multiple jurisdictions across the United States and led to numerous innovative solutions for local government. Session attendees will learn the benefits of using “hackathons” to potentially solve complex issues. Speakers will also discuss how to plan these types of events and how to release solutions into the public domain. Non-technical approaches to problem solving using collaborative techniques such as DesignThink will also be addressed.
