Accounting for a significant amount of new revenue is a problem public sector agencies rarely have to deal with, but as state and local governments look for new ways to fund services it can be a reality that many are not prepared for. Regardless of the source of revenue, it is important to establish goals and long-term financial plans to properly budget and utilize the funds to best meet the needs of the community. The session panel will present two case studies from a Kansas city/county with a recently developed casino and speedway and a Colorado city collecting revenue from local marijuana dispensaries. Attend this session to hear how these communities have successfully balanced the revenue with what often seems like an endless list of requests.
