Job Description: 

The Village of Rantoul seeks an experienced, innovative, and dynamic professional to serve as Comptroller. The Village of Rantoul is a vibrant and diverse community with a population of 13,000, centrally located between Chicago, St. Louis, and Indianapolis. Fiscal responsibility and strong financial policies and practices have resulted in the Village’s A+ bond rating. The Village’s budget for FY 2017/2018 is $48.5 million.

The Comptroller plans and administers the activities of the Finance, MIS, Utility Billing, and Purchasing divisions. This includes responsibility for the Village’s financial planning, investment program, budgeting, accounting/auditing, revenue administration, treasury management, payroll, and purchasing activities. The Comptroller manages fiscal resources, recommends efficient and creative ways to meet an increasing demand for Village services, and must establish and maintain working relationships with subordinates, elected officials, vendors, and residents.

The annual starting salary is $90,000+, dependent on qualifications, plus a competitive benefits package. Residency within the Village’s corporate limits within six months of completing the six month probationary period is required. Rantoul is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field. • Five years of leadership level municipal financial management experience. • Requires thorough knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices. • Requires thorough knowledge of the analysis and preparation of financial statements, work sheets and reports. • Requires thorough knowledge of financial records maintenance requirements. • Requires thorough knowledge of State and local laws pertaining to municipal financial administration. • Requires extensive knowledge of the use and application of data processing systems.

Preferred Qualifications • Master’s degree in accounting, business, or public administration, or Certified Public Accountant Certification • Experience directing at a Department Head/Assistant Department Head level
