On August 12 at 1 p.m. (Eastern), GFOA’s Mike Bailey, finance director for the City of Redmond, Washington, and Dustin McDonald, director of GFOA’s Federal Liaison Center, will lead a free joint webinar with the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) on federal efforts to require online retails to collect and remit sales taxes to state and local governments. Webinar attendees will get:
- A historical summary of federal judicial and legislative activity on remote sales tax collection.
- An overview of current federal activity on legislation that would enable state and local governments to require online retailers to collect and remit taxes remote sales taxes, and related advocacy efforts.
- An introduction to GFOA’s advocacy tools developed to help public administrators get engaged in the effort to urge congressional action on this important issue.
