Melanie Sampson has over 15 years of experience in adult education, including teaching, program administration, and volunteer management. She has overseen programs in community-based settings in neighborhoods such as Rogers Park and East Garfield Park and also taught at Truman College in Uptown, one of the seven City Colleges of Chicago. She has an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in English language & literature and sociology as well as a master’s degree in linguistics with a concentration in TESL from Northeastern Illinois University. She has also studied plain language practices in Simon Fraser University’s continuing studies program. Currently, she is the Content Director of the Clear Language Lab at Literacy Works, a Chicago-based non-profit, where she works with professionals from various sectors to promote clear communication strategies so that people can understand the information they need to make important decisions about their lives.
