GFOA's 113th Annual Conference Program is Set

(Chicago, Illinois – May 9, 2019) Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) will host its 113th Annual Conference, May 19–22, 2019, at the Los Angeles Convention Center, California. Registration for the event is open on GFOA’s website (

The conference is expected to bring together more than 5,000 public finance professionals, including almost 600 recipients of GFOA’s first-time annual conference attendee scholarship, through:

  • Ten preconference seminars on Friday and Saturday,
  • More than 75 concurrent sessions on Sunday through Wednesday,
  • General sessions on Sunday through Tuesday,
  • Discussion groups and networking sessions throughout the conference,
  • A welcome breakfast on Sunday morning,
  • An exhibit hall with nearly 200 companies on Sunday through Tuesday, and
  • A closing event on Tuesday night.

Three keynote speakers will highlight the conference:

Charmaine Brown, a diversity and inclusion leader on the national stage, will bring a fresh perspective to the topic of Unconscious Bias and share compelling examples of how awareness can lead to transformation and better outcomes. Charmaine will be the first of three keynote presenters at the conference on May 19, 1:30 pm–2:20 pm.

James and Deborah Fallows, researchers and award-winning correspondents, will share their perspective from over hundreds of interviews from their five-year journey through the heart of America on what makes communities thrive to GFOA attendees on May 20, 8:30 am–10:10 am.

Peter Bregman, a best-selling author and regular contributor to several publications, including the Harvard Business Review, will provide strategies on how to handle difficult situations, act courageously, and build your leadership presence on May 21, 8:30 am–10:00 am.

The conference will also provide several featured sessions on the daily schedule that will cover the latest developments in public finance including the session, “California State Treasurer Fiona Ma Addresses Public Finance Policy Challenges and Solutions,” on May 21, 3:35 pm–4:50 pm.

The annual conference gives participants an opportunity to earn more than 20 CPE credits with additional credits available for preconference sessions. The conference is one of the most broad-ranging educational opportunities in the public finance field.
