GFOA encourages the pursuit of careers in government finance and management.

Are you a college student looking for that next opportunity to build your portfolio before graduation? GFOA offers a number of opportunities for students to get involved, learn, network, and prepare to excel in the world of government finance.

Student Membership

Student memberships are affordable and offer students all of the advantages of an active government membership.

GFOA Internships

GFOA's internship program lasts a minimum of 10 weeks, with a flexible end date. Interns are expected to work between 20 and 30 hours per week in GFOA’s Chicago office.

GFOA Student Chapters

In 2018, GFOA launched its student chapter initiative to give students more of a voice in the public finance world.

Academic Scholarships

GFOA provides several academic scholarship opportunities for students interested in pursuing a career in state/provincial or local government finance. In 2024, we awarded $105,000 in scholarships.
