Why did you want to become a CPFO?

I wanted to become a CPFO because I have a strong desire to excel in my career as a local government finance director. I am dedicated to personal and career growth and am always looking for ways to build on my existing skills. The CPFO program provided me the opportunity to demonstrate a high level of expertise and commitment to the field of public finance.

What did you learn going through the process?

The CPFO program covers a broad range of fundamental areas of public finance including accounting and financial reporting, budgeting, debt, and investment management. The process has strengthened and enhanced my skills and increased my ability and confidence to handle the complex financial responsibilities required by my role.  

How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession or how do you hope it will make an impact?

The path to becoming a CPFO has provided me with comprehensive knowledge in public finance. With this knowledge, I will be able to make informed decisions and provide more efficient financial management to the organization and community. Maintaining the CPFO designation also requires ongoing education, which will help me remain current with changes in laws, regulations, and financial practices.

What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?

I would highly recommend becoming a CPFO. The process does take time and commitment, but the knowledge obtained throughout the process is invaluable.
