CPFO Spotlight: Mitchell Nixon
Mitchell Nixon, CPFO, is deputy finance director for the Town of East Lyme, Connecticut.
1. Why did you want to become a CPFO?
With some motivation from my mentors, I wanted to obtain my CPFO to build my knowledge so I had a deeper understanding of my job functions and how they impact the people I work with and the communities I serve.
2. What did you learn going through the process?
Going through the process I learned that there's a wide range of regulations impacting government finance and some great methods for keeping up with those ever-changing rules.
3. How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession?
As someone who's been in government finance for a only a few years the CPFO program has allowed me to build my knowledge and better serve the citizens in the communities I've had the opportunity to work in.
4. What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?
I would recommend those considering the process to take part in the program. It will help build the foundation of your knowledge while offering great networking opportunities.
