Tuesday Keynote: Dan Heath
GFOA is pleased to announce Dan Heath as the keynote speaker for the General Session on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at GFOA's 119th Annual Conference.
Dan Heath is the co-author (or author) of multiple #1 New York Times bestselling books: Switch, Made to Stick, Decisive, The Power of Moments, and Upstream. His more recent, Reset: How to Change What's Not Working, published in January 2025, is a guide to looking at systems, processes, organizations, and our daily lives by identifying leverage points and concentrating resources to achieve goals. His books have named one of the best non-fiction books of the year by Amazon, one of the best audio books of the year by Apple, and the #1 business book of the year by the Globe and Mail. Dan also hosts a Top 5 Apple Careers podcast called: “What It’s Like to Be…” where he interviews someone from a different profession: a couples therapist, a homicide detective, a cattle rancher, and more. He is a senior fellow at Duke University’s CASE Center and co-founder of Thinkwell. He also has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from the University of Texas at Austin.
During his presentation, Dan will provide a framework for getting unstuck and making the changes that matter. Change can feel overwhelming and we can easily be stifled by the gravity of the way we’ve always done things. We spend so much time fighting fires – and fighting colleagues. He will explore why getting “buy-in” is the wrong way to think about change and provide strategies to unlock forward movement, accelerate change, and get dramatically better results.
