Process Improvement / ERP Consultant

GFOA seeks individuals with a passion for local government and desire to help organizations modernize, improve business processes, and promote financial management best practices. GFOA consultants work directly with local governments across the United States and Canada to assist with modernization efforts including process improvement, ERP procurement, and ERP implementation.


Marketing Coordinator

The Marketing Coordinator will assist in developing, executing, and maintaining strategic creative assets for marketing initiatives to promote the organization’s research, educational offerings, and advocacy efforts. The role also involves tracking data from digital campaigns, registration trends, and other metrics to ensure successful positioning of marketing efforts.


Program Associate, CPFO Certification Program

The Program Associate for GFOA's Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) certification program will assist the Senior Program Manager in defining and implementing GFOA’s revised certification program, and will oversee the day-to-day functions of the certification program. The Program Associate will support GFOA’s efforts to strengthen fundamental skills, enhance knowledge of best practices and standards in state and local government, and uphold the reputation and quality of the certification program.

Accounting Internship, GFOA Technical Services

The Technical Services Intern will work 20 hours or less a week. GFOA’s internship program provides an opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in pursuing a career in local government or in an industry serving local governments to improve upon their knowledge/experience with public sector operations, develop network connections with GFOA members, and refine technical skills. Interns will be exposed to governmental accounting and financial reporting of state and local governments.


Marketing Internship (Spring Term)

The Communications/ Marketing Intern will work 20 hours or less a week. GFOA’s internship program provides an opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in Marketing and gives the intern exposure to careers in an industry serving local governments to improve upon their knowledge/experience with public sector operations, develop network connections with GFOA members, and refine technical skills. Interns play a critical role in supporting various programs and services that GFOA offers.  


IT Internship (Spring Term)

The IT Intern will work in the Chicago office around 20 hours a week. GFOA’s internship program provides an opportunity for undergraduates with an interest in pursuing a career in IT to develop network connections with GFOA members, and refine technical skills. Interns play a critical role in supporting various programs and services that GFOA offers.  


Public Finance Internship

GFOA seeks undergraduate or graduate students interested in a career working in local government finance. GFOA’s internship program offers practical experience working with local governments on issues such as budgeting, technology, accounting/financial reporting, treasury management, purchasing, process improvement and others.   GFOA interns will contribute to research, data analysis, communications, and project management. In addition, interns will interact with a broad network of GFOA members and practitioners representing a wide variety of governments. Past GFOA interns have gone on to work with state and local governments, non-profit organizations, consulting firms, and GFOA.
