Beverly (Bev) Fitzsimmons

Bev has devoted forty-three years to public service in municipal finance. She served as deputy comptroller from 2015 to the end of 2023 and recently filed for retirement. Known for her extensive knowledge of the city’s complex financial landscape, Bev led accounts payable, payroll, and auditing functions and served as the comptroller's representative on several boards, including trustee on the Police Retirement System, Firefighter's Retirement Plan, and Firemen's Retirement System. She navigated multiple recessions, two ERP overhauls, and the pandemic. "Bev has never avoided a tough financial problem," says her colleague Ryan Coleman, who highlighted her commitment to mindful spending and responsible stewardship. Her legacy is marked by leadership, resilience, and dedication to colleagues and the St. Louis community.
