Jim Golden
Chief financial officer, City of Longmont, Colorado
Jim has served the City of Longmont since 1981, becoming finance director/chief financial officer in 1987. Overseeing the City’s financial operations, he has managed its growth—from a population of 30,000 to over 100,000—while maintaining financial integrity across essential services, including utilities and municipal broadband. His expertise in cash management, debt management, budgeting, and financial reporting has been vital to Longmont’s success. Jim has been a member of GFOA and the Colorado GFOA (CGFOA) for more than forty years and is a past CGFOA board president. As Jeff Hansen, finance director for the City of Golden, Colorado, reflects, “Jim hired me fresh out of college and was my boss and mentor during my 8+ years with the city. He has continued to be a mentor and resource for me and for numerous finance/accounting individuals in Longmont and across Colorado. His dedication to the city and the governmental finance profession for 43+ years deserves recognition as an Outstanding Public Finance Professional.”
