UFF Spotlight: Carleetha Character, CPM
Carleetha Character, CPM, is assistant director of finance and administration for the City of Fayetteville, Georgia.
The City of Fayetteville, Georgia, provides water, sewer, sanitation, and stormwater services to the residents and businesses within its city limits. We are committed to providing courteous and efficient service to all utility customers. Our office helps the community with utility-related issues by offering the following:
Utility Assistance Programs. We have established partnerships with different organizations and churches to create assistance programs aimed at supporting vulnerable members of our community. These programs provide financial aid, resources, and guidance to those struggling with utility bills.
Educational Workshops and Resources. Our goal is to provide knowledgeable customer interactions. Knowledge is empowering, and we’re committed to equipping our community with the tools it needs to manage its utilities effectively. We hold quarterly HOA/POA meetings to discuss certain topics such as stormwater management and sanitation. By providing our customers and the community with practical information, we help them make informed decisions that benefit their households and the environment.
Community Engagement and Outreach. Building trust and fostering dialogue with community members is essential in addressing their needs effectively. We host two annual “Open Houses” —one in April and the other during customer service week in October—- where we listen to residents’ concerns regarding utility matters. At these events, we distribute educational resources on conservation and water efficiency and pass out water saver kits. By maintaining an open line of communication, we ensure that our initiatives are responsive to the needs and priorities of the community.
Each of these initiatives represents a step forward in our efforts to support our community in managing utility-related challenges. I’m proud of the dedication and commitment demonstrated by each team member in making these initiatives possible.
My personal motto is always, “How can I be of service today?” My favorite quote is “Love what you do, do what you love or leave.”
