Sue Buitenhuis

Sue is the Finance Director of Cheboygan County, Michigan, where she has been since 2020. Cheboygan County has a population of approximately 26,000. It encompasses 720 square miles of nature's best, strategically located at the tip of Michigan's Lower Peninsula along the pristine shores of Lake Huron and the Straits of Mackinac. Much of the economy in Cheboygan County is based on recreational assets, natural resources, and the service and retail trade. Sue is a licensed CPA in the State of Michigan and has worked in Public Accounting for several years, auditing local schools and municipalities. She has also worked for Central Michigan University as a Grant Accountant, was a Finance Director for Park Township in Ottawa County, Michigan, and was an elected Clerk for Grand Haven Charter Township for 15 years. Sue has a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Grand Valley State University, Allendale, Michigan. Sue attended GFOA's Leadership Academy in 2013 and has attended GFOA conferences. She is excited to be involved with the Small Government Forum. Sue enjoys hiking, backpacking, snowmobiling, and walking/running. She also enjoys spending time with her three sons, their spouses, and six grandchildren.
