John M. Globensky
City Treasurer, City of Grand Rapids, Michigan
John joined the City of Grand Rapids in May 2009 as the Investment Analyst handling a $220 million portfolio including money market accounts, certificates of deposit, commercial paper, and municipal bonds. In July 2012, John was promoted to Administrative Analyst-Accounting and oversaw the cashier office and lockbox processing function for the city. In May 2014, the City Commission appointed John to the position of City Treasurer. During John’s time in the Treasurer’s Office, he received certifications as an Advanced Public Funds Investment Manager, Michigan Certified Professional Treasurer, and Certified Public Finance Administrator. During his career, John was the recipient of both the MMTA Prime Award and the Dr. Jackson R.E. Phillips Award for his groundbreaking systems and procedures. John has spoken at MMTA, GFOA, MGFOA, APT US&C, and technology conferences.
John is from the West Michigan area having lived in South Haven, Kalamazoo, Rockford and Grand Rapids. Much of John’s family have and still live in the West Michigan area. John has earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration as a double major in Accounting and Finance in 1988 from Western Michigan University and a Master of Business Administration in 2003 from the University of Phoenix.
When not at work, John enjoys being outdoors, rock hunting (copper), golfing, and spending time with family and friends. If not in West Michigan, you will be able to find him in the Upper Peninsula.
