Courtney Shearer

Courtney’s service at the Virginia Lottery has led to improvements in finance and operations, particularly in streamlining processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy. She recently led the implementation of an expense module that reduces manual data entry and accelerates approval processes. Since joining the organization, she has modernized outdated financial policies and introduced new ones to ensure the finance team consistently provides accurate and reliable information. Known for driving positive change, Courtney fosters collaboration and is always ready to support her team. As a CPA, she emphasizes professional development for her staff. “She always looks for the positive in any negative,” says her nominator, Courtney Goad. Outside of work, Courtney serves as a Supervisory Committee Member for the UVA Community Credit Union and through the VA Lottery Outreach program, volunteers with organizations such as Community in Schools, Jill's Blankets, the Children’s Museum, and the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She was also recently appointed to GFOA's Accounting, Auditing, and Financial Reporting Committee.
