CPFO Spotlight: Amanda Deaton-Moyer
Amanda Deaton-Moyer, CPFO, is finance assistant director for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
1. Why did you want to become a CPFO?
I wanted to become a CPFO to round out my finance experience across the government finance disciplines and maximize efficiency and value for our residents.
2. What did you learn going through the process?
I learned that government finance leaders must be knowledgeable on a wide range of topics, but may not be experts. Curiosity and willingness to ask questions of other professionals is crucial.
3. How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession?
I hope that this certification, along with the continuing education requirements will keep me engaged and knowledgeable across the vast governmental finance space.
4. What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?
I would encourage anyone considering this certification to ensure they understand not only the book and study content, but also context in their daily routines/jobs. What a great program to pause and connect the dots on why and how government works.
