1. Why did you want to become a CPFO?

I wanted to become a CPFO because I realized that there would be opportunities for advancement in my organization, and I wanted to be prepared to help lead the way.

2. What did you learn going through the process?

Throughout the process, I learned that government finance has a lot of unique situations, and the GFOA has a lot of helpful resources!

3. How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession?

Becoming a CPFO has given me a vast amount of knowledge that I will use throughout the rest of my career here at the City of Dover, and beyond.  I hope that when I retire, I can help one or more non-profits with their finances, since they are similar to government.

4. What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?

For anyone considering becoming a CPFO, you will not regret this decision. It will give you a great knowledge base if you’ve never worked in the public sector, and if you have, it’s always good to refresh. The program offers so much more than just information to pass the exams. The vast wealth of experiences included in the training is priceless!
