Why did you want to become a CPFO?

I pursued the CPFO certification because of my desire to excel in my position and my everlasting desire to learn more. To be an effective leader, I believe I must demonstrate my commitment to professional growth to empower those around me. I always strive not only to meet but exceed the expectations of my role.

What did you learn going through the process?

Although continuous learning has always been a top priority for me, going through the process of earning the CPFO certification enforced this thought. Sometimes you just don’t know what you don’t know, so the more you expose yourself to various topics or practices, you are likely to find there is something that you don’t know. Government finance is constantly evolving, and ongoing education is key to staying current on best practices and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. When you are current on best practices, rules and regulations, you can make the best decisions for your organization.

How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession or how do you hope it will make an impact?

The most important thing that becoming a CPFO has done for me was boost my confidence. I feel better equipped to implement best practices, assess financial risks, assist in the development of strategic plans, and make informed financial decisions that positively impact my organization and community.

What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?

All I would say is do it! It’s worth the investment.
