The successful candidate will have advanced working knowledge and understanding of, as well as relevant experience in governmental accounting, as well as an excellent understanding of key standards set forth by the governing bodies of financial and governmental accounting (e.g. applicable GASB statement implementation, internal service funds, etc.) Position requires extensive knowledge and practical application of accounting methodology, as well as accurate and timely maintenance of fiscal records pertaining to governmental accounting and reporting for a public agency. Prepares highly complex and diversified financial reports, such as governmental fund (modified accrual) and government-wide (full accrual) financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Prepare District’s Annual Financial Report (AFR) to be filed with the Florida Department of Financial Services. Provides technical accounting guidance and assistance to assigned departments, as well as monitoring the accounting activities within assigned funds. Assists with the development and review of accounting policies and procedures and with the implementation of new accounting pronouncements (GASB’s). Responsible for a variety of general professional accounting tasks including, but not limited to, preparation and/or review of journal entries, review and/or reconciliation of balance sheet accounts (includes bank, cash, investment, accounts payable, accounts receivable, debt, payroll & benefits, etc.). Requires STRONG proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, with emphasis on advanced working knowledge of Excel, Word and Access.
